Assessing Personal Safety Risks and Firearms Safety for Real Estate Professionals

The National Association of Realtors(NAR) reported in their 2020 Member Safety Report that 23% of real estate professionals had experienced a situation that made them fear for their personal safety.  The NAR also reported that 49% of their members choose to carry a self-defense weapon and 14% choose to carry a firearm (10% declined to say what their self-defense weapon of choice is).

Even among armed professionals, using a firearm is always a last resort personal safety measure. Our goal in this course is to educate real estate agents on how be situationally aware and how to identify potential personal safety risks so that they make good decisions preventing them from getting into dangerous situations.  This course will teach the listing real estate agent to do an assessment of his/her client’s property to help prevent instances of property or violent crimes.  We will teach agents to be aware and cautious of their surroundings and how not to be drawn into dangerous situations. Maintaining continuous situational awareness, real estate agents will be more prepared to avoid danger. Everyone will learn to develop, communicate, practice and re-enforce emergency procedures within their team and brokerage.

Choosing to be armed is a very personal decision. In the event the real estate agent chooses to be armed, this course will educate him/her on the how to be a responsibly armed citizen. Those real estate agents who have chosen to, or are considering, lawfully carry a firearm will learn what it means to be a confident, competent, safe, responsible, and legally armed citizen.  We will cover: the principles of safe firearm handling; principles of marksmanship; responsibility that comes with owning a firearm; and the law as it relates to carrying a firearm outside the home.
